Passing Through is a performance of collective creativity. Dancers spiral around, fly over, and slide under one another, choreographing the dance as they pass through the space. Moving to music collected from around the world, dancers invoke diverse styles and cultural traditions. They dance from their own experiences, integrating the facets of their lives into the phrases of their movements. Dancers surprise themselves and provoke the movements of others. They play to inspire creativity, physicality and artistry. They play to have fun. They play to move the spirit, Passing Through.

They share this electrifying experience of dance with the public to entertain and inspire. Their performances connect dancers to the audience, uniting both in collective joy. Their workshops awaken people’s physicality, inspiring individuals to join each other in collective movement – a step towards a more collective world.

On April 26th, 2011, eleven international dancers from 50collective landed in New York to embark on a journey. They embodied the American spirit and traveled by road, Crossing The Continent from east to west.

Throughout the four weeks, 50collective Passed Through six destinations – New York, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Portland, and Seattle. In each city, they performed Passing Through at traditional theater venues as well as site-specific outdoor performances and will lead workshops for both dancers and the public in collaboration with local arts organizations, venues and dance studios.
